The Freddie Mercury Tribute
A Memorable Day in My Life and the Life of my Brother, and many more people!!!! Buying the ticket was also special…not knowing what we were going to witness and also NOT knowing what was going to happen or WHO were going to play on the day. It would be a BIG SURPRISE and a great Happening, that’s for sure we were saying.. So buying the ticket was one thing, organising the trip would be the second hurdle…..The boattrip was a delight and much fun with all Dutch fans singing and drinking till late, Much to late, and much to much drinking!! We went to Pembridge Road to visit the Queen office and hopefully the Fan Club Office but no one would open the door……taking a break in Hyde Park on a very hot day, then taking the tube to Wembley station and Walking the ROAD TO WEMBLEY. The OLD Wembley. I Feel very Proud to have been there. It was the closest to a religious experience I think. We cried we laughed we were exhousted by all what we experienced.
Rose :
What performance did you enjoy the most, and why.
Johan :
Bowie with Mick Ronson and Ian Hunter….and Brian with Too Much Love Will Kill You Why? Sheer emotion. And then George Michael eith Somebody To Love.
Rose :
was there something that struck you most on that day? Something that some artist may have done or said? And why.
Johan :
Our Father by Bowie was Impressive. Well, that was really unexpected. Religion and Bowie??? Bowie had nothing with religioni, I thought and now he did that for a friend who was dying of aids at that time I believe.
Rose :
What were your feelings at the end of that day? – on that day, you felt the concert as the end of Queen, their final chapter? Or you could somehow figure out that Freddie would still be around with his music for the years to come, still loved by his fans?
Johan :
I saw and still see it as Queen’s final concert. Eventhough having much fun qith the Queen+ shows, and never doubted that Freddie would stay around.
Rose :
Thanks for your precious contribution.
